Power Struggle from Crain's Chicago Business.
"Gov. Pat Quinn has called the debate over how to modernize Illinois' power grid the "biggest consumer battle of the last generation." But how much do consumers know about the smart grid itself? Learn how S&C Electric is trying to inform and innovate at the same time."
--A smarter grid (a more sustainable grid) promotes not only savings in lost energy to utilities but make energy more affordable for all consumers. Great stuff. Love to see it.
MIT Artificial Solar Leaf Comes to Life! (Video) from Treehugger.
"The artificial leaf is essentially a silicon solar cell with different catalytic materials bonded to each side that allow it to split a water molecule into oxygen and hydrogen -- a liquid fuel source. It is made entirely of abundant, inexpensive materials (mostly silicon, cobalt and nickel) and works in ordinary water."
--WOW! This is awesome. MIT does cool stuff, obviously, like viral batteries (which are THE next big breakthrough in automobiles). Just check it all out and soak it all in, much like this leaf. Yay.
Eliminating the Dreaded Left Turn from Planetizen.
"The FHWA says that 40% of all traffic accidents happen at intersections, and many of those are caused by left turns. A new type of intersection called the "diverging diamond" takes left turns out of the picture."
--While yes, it's not exactly people-centered design to make it easier for cars to get around, I think we can all get behind making roads safer while we still have human-operated vehicles (c'mon Google, hurry up with the self-driving car).

Talked Like Yoda, Cavemen Did from Newser.
--Like this, I do.
