So it's Monday, June 13th, and at week's end, I'll be among the group of AmeriCorps VISTA alumni. My year term of service will be over.
At once, I feel as though it couldn't have POSSIBLY been a year, but I also can't believe that it's only been one year instead of many. I've learned so much, and yet, I feel as if I don't know anything.
I guess that this is the kind of year I was supposed to have--up and down, left and right, etc. As I look on my final week, I can't help but reflect on HOW I'm ending my service--busy as ever, still trying to fulfill the mission, and rushed along my schedule.
I had a meeting with someone the other day and they asked me if we could meet again next month and I told them that it would have to be on the phone because I'll be in a different timezone by then.
When people have been asking me what I'm doing post-VISTA and pre-graduate school, I tell them that I'll fill my time mulching, weeding, reading, and general relaxing--a far cry (except for the reading) from my term of service. It's almost surreal that this experience, which began in December of 2009 (WOW) from the search and application process, is finally coming to an end.
I can't really effectively reflect on something until I get a few months removed from it, so look for an update in a few months on what it really meant to me.
